Visual graphic arts is comprised of painting, drawing sculpting and photography; within each area of interest, there are many different components that make up each category. Anything can be produced in each visual graphic art category depending on what the artist may want.
Water coloring and oil painting are popular ways art is created. The type of surface that is being painted also makes a difference to the finished work. The type of paint brush can have a direct effect on how the art may turn out.
There are many different types of media utilized in drawing. Pencil drawing and sketching is the most common, but pen and ink, pastels, charcoal, chalk, markers and even crayons can be used to create drawings that vary widely in their appearance and appeal. Almost any surface can provide a background for different drawings.
Sculpting also comes in many materials, including wood, stone, metal, clay, ceramics, ice, sand marble and other materials. Final products of sculptors are directly effected by the media. Carefully subtracting or carving wood is important when sculpting wood. This process is also used when working with stone or marble.
Clay and ceramics have to be constantly tampered with in order to be molded in the preferred shape or form. Anything that requires sculpting, including clay modeling requires a lot of manipulation.
Adding pieces to complete a sculpture is known as addition. Metal sculptures use a variety of pieces to compose a significant piece of art. Sand is continuously added to sand sculptures to complete a piece of art.
Many environmental sculptures feature an assortment of materials designed using the process of substitution.
Color and Black and white photography is a popular concept. The contrast in colors presents a different type of photo that can be more appealing and unique. Through analog and digital media artists are able to include unique effects; film photography enhances a photo while preserving natural values. The material that the photograph is printed on can also change the finished result.
The way a finished product may look depends on the category of media used. If you are budding artist, you will be able to experiment with the media available to find the one you are comfortable working with, and that gives your art work the desired effect. There are no hard and fast rules, and many beautiful works of art have completely disregarded the unwritten ?rules? and used media that previously may not have been considered appropriate. Art is a wonderful field of work that can be taken in many directions.
